Shikakai is the Indian name for the Acacia concinna plant, which grows in the central and southern parts of the country. From its bark, rich in saponins (vegetable substances with excellent cleaning abilities), a powder well known for its properties is obtained. This powder is in fact used to cleanse hair and skin.

The word Shikakai can be literally translated as “Fruit for hair” and has been used in Ayurveda as a natural shampoo for centuries. Despite its excellent cleaning power, it acts delicately on the skin, without irritating or being too aggressive, which makes it particularly suitable for sensitive skin as a natural substitute for the classic shampoo.

It is especially recommended as a natural treatment for oily hair or hair prone to dandruff: this is because it is a natural astringent and therefore promotes the health of the scalp by keeping it clean and fresh and helps to combat dandruff. It is also used for a strengthening effect on the hair and to stimulate it to grow.

Not only that, thanks to its properties, Shikakai powder is often used for cleansing combination and impure skin.
