Arnica is a perennial herbaceous plant, belonging to the Asteraceae family, which grows spontaneously in the Alpine and pre-Alpine regions, in general it loves moist mountain meadows. Originally from Europe, it is also found in Central Asia and southern Russia. It is characterized by an erect and moderately robust stem, with large "disheveled" orange-yellow flower heads and a pleasant aromatic smell.

In particular, the arnica extract (Arnica Montana Flower Extract) is obtained from the flowers of this plant, through a cold extraction process, without the use of chemical solvents. This allows to keep the active ingredients unaltered.

Arnica is often used to reduce swelling and pain, especially in the case of sprains and arthritis problems, muscle and cartilage disorders, but also in the case of insect bites. In fact, there are many ointments or gels (medical devices) based on arnica extracts used to massage the affected areas to counteract muscle or joint pain of various kinds.

The extract is also particularly used in the dermo-cosmetic field for the formulation of products with a stimulating and toning action on the skin and scalp such as shampoos, shower gels, tonics and trichological lotions.
