In traditional Chinese medicine, Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus and Astragalus mongholicus), belonging to the Fabaceae family, is considered the best plant capable of stimulating Qi, the body's vital force.

The astragalus plant is native to the Gansu region located in northwest China, where it is also known by the name of Huang-Qi. Its natural habitat is mainly wooded and grows no higher than 1,400 m above sea level.

Astragalus extract (Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract) is obtained from the roots of the plant and is used in herbal medicine and phytotherapy because of its anti-inflammatory, immunostimulating, tonic and adaptogenic properties, conferred by the presence in the plant of triterpene saponins, flavonoids and polysaccharides.

Preparations based on this plant are therefore recommended to stimulate the immune system and to strengthen the body's natural defense mechanisms.

Astragalus extract is also used in cosmetics, in particular as an adjuvant for the prevention and treatment of stretch marks. In fact, the presence of saponins and polysaccharides within the plant itself helps to inhibit the inflammatory process which is the main cause of the formation of stretch marks, promotes tissue repair, fights free radicals and makes the skin toned and compact.
