Camphor

What is it?

Camphor is a natural organic compound primarily extracted from the wood of the Cinnamomum camphora tree, native to Asia. It appears as a solid, white or transparent substance with a distinctive, pungent, balsamic scent.

It has been known for centuries for its aromatic, stimulating, and purifying properties. In natural and eco-friendly cosmetics, camphor is appreciated for its refreshing, toning, and mildly warming effects on the skin.

What does it do in cosmetics?

Toning and stimulating: camphor boosts microcirculation and stimulates the skin, making it ideal in leg care products or body treatments with a toning effect.

Refreshing and soothing: provides an immediate cooling sensation. Common in after-sun gels, foot creams, or muscle-relief lotions.

Purifying: thanks to its natural antibacterial action, it's often used in products for oily or acne-prone skin.

Decongestant: its balsamic aroma is also ideal for chest balms and natural inhalation products.
