Cetyl Palmitate is a waxy ester of vegetable origin, obtained from the reaction between cetyl alcohol and palmitic acid.

It constitutes the vegetable alternative to animal spermaceti, which was once extracted from the blubber of cetaceans, for this reason it is also known as synthetic spermaceti.

Aesthetically it is presented in the form of white flakes.

It is often used in cosmetics as it is able to form a lipid film on the skin which reduces the loss of water from the stratum corneum, with an occlusive and protective effect on the skin.

Not only that, it manages to provide cosmetics with a dry touch (a much appreciated feature) and is also able to improve the texture and stability of emulsions.
