Glucose

What is it?

Glucose is a simple sugar (monosaccharide) of natural origin, found in many plants, fruits, and honey. In cosmetics, it is mainly used for its moisturizing and sweetening properties.

What does it do in cosmetics?

Moisturizing: due to its ability to retain moisture, it helps keep the skin soft and well hydrated.

Humectant: promotes water retention in the outer layers of the skin, helping to prevent dryness and dehydration.

Enzymatic exfoliant: in some formulations, it can gently remove dead skin cells, promoting skin renewal.

Sweetening additive: also used in lip products or natural formulations for its sweet taste.

Curiosities

Glucose is fundamental to many biological processes and is also a key ingredient in producing functional substances like sorbitol or gluconate. It is often combined with other natural sugars to enhance moisturizing effects in cosmetics.
