Alcanna extract is a vegetable dye obtained from the root of the Alkanna Tinctoria plant, an evergreen shrub with beautiful blue flowers, native to the Mediterranean areas, which grows only on sandy soils and poor and well-drained soils.

Particularly rich in polyphenols, alcanna extract is used in cosmetics to make up skin and hair care products, hand and face creams and nourishing masks, but is mainly used to color ointments, pomades, oils and soaps.

In fact, the root of this plant contains a red-violet coloring principle (called alcannin) which has been used since ancient times to dye wools, fabrics, creams, oils, toothpastes and as a food coloring.
This pigment contained in the alcane root powder can be extracted in oil and alcohol, while it is not very soluble in water. The color obtained is a deep mahogany red.

In addition to its dyeing power, alcana also has other therapeutic properties, such as: antiseptic, antimicrobial, antioxidant and healing, it helps purify and repair wounds and has a mild immunostimulating power.
