Hydroxyapatite is a mineral that occurs in the form of usually white prismatic crystals. It is one of the main components of bones and teeth and gives them hardness and consistency. It is inserted in cosmetics for the oral cavity such as toothpastes, in order to promote the remineralization of the teeth and create a physiological barrier against plaque, tartar, caries and dentine sensitivity. It is also used in surgery for bone surgery and prosthesis implantation. Hydroxyapatite is also used in the creation of ecological and skin-compatible sunscreens.

In combination with other ingredients, such as zinc oxide, it performs an important barrier activity against UV rays and ensures full safety for all skin types, including sensitive ones. It also has a uniforming and soft-focus effect, improves skin elasticity while preserving the structural integrity of collagen and elastin fibers and has an anti-wrinkle effect. It has no impact on the marine ecosystem and is respectful of the coral reef and oceanic and marine fauna.
