Hydroxystearic/Linolenic/Oleic Polyglycerides

What is it?

This is a cosmetic ingredient derived from vegetable oils, commonly used in skin and hair care products.

It is composed of polyglycerides of fatty acids, including:

Hydroxystearic Acid → has emollient and stabilizing properties

Linolenic Acid → an essential fatty acid with antioxidant and reparative properties

Oleic Acid → found in vegetable oils, it promotes hydration and enhances the absorption of active ingredients into the skin

The result is a multifunctional blend of biodegradable and skin-friendly esters, appreciated for its versatility, excellent skin tolerance, and sensory properties similar to silicones—while being completely natural and biodegradable.

What does it do in cosmetics?

Natural emollient: nourishes and softens the skin and hair without greasiness, leaving them silky and well hydrated.

Silky touch feel: gives a soft, dry-touch sensation similar to silicones, without synthetic occlusive ingredients.

Improves texture: enhances formulation spreadability, pleasantness, and stability.

Natural silicone alternative: used in green and organic formulas as a sustainable alternative to dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane.

Conditioning agent: improves hair manageability and softness, protecting it from mechanical stress.

Fun facts

This oil blend is especially valued in green and organic cosmetics as a plant-based alternative to silicones, particularly in leave-in hair treatments, facial serums, and BB creams.

The presence of linolenic acid (omega-3) also provides antioxidant and reparative benefits, ideal for sensitive or damaged skin.

It is approved by several natural and organic cosmetic certification bodies (such as COSMOS and NATRUE).
