The Ivy plant has non-floriferous branches composed of characteristic leaves with 3 or 5 light and dark green lobes, ideal for covering walls or tree trunks. In the flowering branches the leaves are rhomboidal ovate instead. The flowers are formed by five green petals gathered in spherical umbels. Characteristic of ivy is the first flowering at about 10 years of age. The fruits are made up of globose berries of a black color when ripe, long stalked and gathered in spherical formations.

Mainly known as an ornamental plant for balconies, hedges and fences, ivy is actually also highly appreciated in the herbal and cosmetic fields. In fact, its virtues help improve female beauty and are known above all for their contrasting action on skin blemishes.

Ivy boasts an astringent action and is therefore an essential ingredient in products for oily skin. Ivy extracts not only promote cleansing of the skin, but are also excellent for helping to combat dandruff and greasy hair. This extract therefore lends itself to being exploited in many ways: it can be used as a simple massage oil or added to masks, creams and shampoos.

The best known and most significant quality of this plant is undoubtedly the ability to counteract skin blemishes such as cellulite. In fact, enjoying draining properties, as well as the ability to stimulate blood microcirculation, ivy is among the most used natural remedies to mitigate and prevent the appearance of subcutaneous fat. To take full advantage of the virtuous characteristics of ivy, you can rely on specific creams and body lotions.

In cosmetics, the fat-soluble extract of vegetable origin of the Ivy is used a lot, obtained by maceration of the leaves of the plant in sunflower oil. The Ivy extract, rich in saponins, has a marked toning cosmetic action on all parts of the body that tend to relax and lose tone.
