Nettle is a perennial herbaceous plant from 0.5 to 1.5 meters high and belonging to the Urticaceae family; widespread both in the East and in the West, it is known for the irritating power of the hairs that cover its leaves and stems: its name seems to derive from the Latin urere which means "to burn" in reference to its stinging hairs.

The large quantity of known active ingredients, and others still not thoroughly studied as a whole, make nettle one of the plants with the greatest number of medicinal properties. Its iron and vitamin C content make it particularly recommended for those suffering from anemia, in the form of herbal tea. It also has vasoconstrictive (contracts blood vessels) and hemostatic (stops bleeding) properties, so it is especially used in cases of nose and uterine bleeding. Thanks to the marked diuretic action of nettle leaves, their use has also been officially approved in case of urinary tract infections and kidney stones.

For external use it has an emollient effect, thanks to which it is used in the treatment of the skin, especially in the case of oily skin because it purifies and regenerates the skin. Finally, thanks to its content of vitamins C, A, K, magnesium, silicon and calcium, nettle is also a fundamental remedy for scalp problems: nettle reduces excess sebum by rebalancing the natural PH of the scalp and acting as an important support for the cleaning action of the hair bulbs which will no longer be blocked by dandruff or dead cells.

The Emilian company that supplies us with the nettle carries out the extraction using a technologically advanced method based on ultrasound: it is an exclusively mechanical method in which the entire extraction process takes place at room temperature thus avoiding the disintegration of the thermolabile active ingredients, such as vitamins or essential oils. During the process, the ultrasounds are transformed into shock waves which spread in the containment tank through the formation of millions of micro-bubbles which grow until they explode. This phenomenon allows the rupture of the cell membrane, the emptying of the active principles contained in it and the consequent solubilization in the solvent medium: in this way almost total extractions of all the active principles contained in the plants are obtained, which cannot happen with a physical extraction. It is therefore an extraction method capable of keeping the organoleptic and functional qualities of the plants intact, with which real distilled waters are obtained and not simple flavored waters.
