Hieracium pilosella

The pilosella or pilosella is a shaggy and perennial herbaceous plant, belonging to the Composite family. Also known as "mouse's ear" or "cat's tongue" - due to the rosette shape of the basal leaves, covered with white down (hence the name pelosella); it grows spontaneously in arid, mountainous and sunny places in Europe and northern Asia. Diuretic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties are attributed to the hawkweed. The active ingredient of the pilosella, endowed with the aforementioned phytotherapeutic properties, is represented by the entire flowering plant. Pilosella is recommended especially in case of water retention. Modern phytotherapy also attributes diuretic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties to the pilosella. This plant has marked diuretic and draining properties, mainly attributable to the presence of flavonoids (luteoloside), are universally known, and make it useful in the treatment of cellulite blemishes, always in the form of an adjuvant. It is also very useful in the treatment of blemishes caused by the accumulation of liquids, such as cellulite, swollen ankles, edema of the lower limbs and, more generally, water retention. By promoting diuresis, pilosella is useful as a prevention of urinary tract infections. Pilosella has some anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties.
