Polyphenol of the stilbene class, resveratrol is present in some fruits, such as grapes and blackberries. It is found in considerable quantity in wine, where its presence would partly explain the beneficial effects of this drink on health, consumed in moderation. This molecule has been the subject of numerous researches and has long been known for its benefits on cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and the proper functioning of the brain. Resveratrol is also used extensively in cosmetic formulations. It is in fact one of the most powerful antioxidants on the market and is known to prolong the life of cells, thanks to its ability to stimulate the production of longevity proteins: sirtuins. It is also known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. Various studies show that, thanks to its antioxidant capabilities, resveratrol is effective in protecting the skin against the deleterious effects of cellular stress. It also prolongs the life of cells, arriving a sirtuin (SIRT-1), longevity protein present in skin cells: fibroblasts and keratinocytes. This protein prolongs cell life by compacting the DNA, which therefore cannot be transcribed; this allows to reduce the error rate and, therefore, to preserve the genome of each cell. It is able to reduce the number and depth of established wrinkles. It also stimulates healing.
