Salvia Officinalis is native to the Mediterranean basin, its area of origin can be traced back to Dalmatia or Spain. It has been known and appreciated for thousands of years for its medicinal properties, after all even its common name attests to the importance that this plant had in ancient medicine: it derives from the Latin "salvatrix" "that saves" or from "salveo" which means "stay healthy". Salvia officinalis, which belongs to the Laminaceae family, looks like a woody and evergreen shrub that grows in thick bushes. The stems of the plant, when sage is young, are light green in color and become darker and more woody over the years. The leaves are gray-green, lanceolate in shape, on the upper page they have a very small and dense hair that gives them a velvety appearance while in the lower part they have clearly visible veins and are rougher. The flowers are violet in colour, but in some varieties they can also be white.

From an aromatherapy point of view, sage essential oil is relaxing and if inhaled it induces calm and serenity in the presence of stress, nervousness, anguish, fears or paranoia. Sage is also known for its antibacterial power: it acts both on the excessive secretion of sweat in the hands, armpits and feet, and as an antibacterial on the microorganisms that produce bad smells, making it extremely effective in deodorants.

Sage essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and young flowers of the plant of the same name, sage hydrolat is the secondary product obtained from this process, which takes place in an alembic. It has a characteristic delicate scent and for this reason it is often included in cosmetic preparations.

In cosmetics, sage is very suitable for the treatment of oily skin, by virtue of its sebum-regulating and decongestant properties. In shampoos and hair lotions, it is used for dandruff, to cleanse oily hair and to brighten dark hair.

Once upon a time there was a gasman named Cesare who had an abandoned and uncultivated family land and a secret dream, that of restoring splendor to that land and doing a job in contact with nature and life. Once upon a time there were two guys who gave birth to a small company that produces eco-friendly cosmetics, constantly looking for high-quality, km0 ingredients with a positive social and environmental impact. One beautiful Sunday, like all the others, Cesare and the two boys meet at a gas distribution and start talking... and so, a new supply chain project is born among boxes of vegetables, sustainable products, solidarity talks and nice people. Cesare thus began to cultivate Salvia Officinale with passion and sweet techniques in his land in the Marche knowing that it will have an excellent use: his Sage will become a special ingredient of delicious eco-bio cosmetics. It's one of those projects we like, the ones where everyone "wins": Cesare can invest in his land and his work with serenity, LaSaponaria has ensured a quality ingredient for his recipes, an uncultivated land becomes a guest of organic cultivation and the negative externalities of the whole cycle are reduced to a minimum: no herbicides, very little transport and no waste. All qualities that make cosmetics created with this sage even more "tasty"!
