Cassia angustifolia, is the scientific name of a plant more commonly known as Senna, from its previous denomination Senna alexandrina.

It is a plant belonging, according to most scholars, to the Cesalpinioidee subfamily of the Leguminous family (or Fabaceae). Senna is a plant native to the Middle East, Egypt and India.

It appears as a herbaceous plant, or as a small shrub, which can reach over one and a half meters in height, with yellowish-green leaves, grouped and elongated, yellow flowers, gathered in small inflorescences and black, flattened and elongated fruits.

The common name Senna with which Cassia angustifolia is indicated, would derive from the name of the region of Nubia Sennàr; its meaning, however, from the Arabic and would mean "to heal". The genus Senna is very similar to the genus Cassia, so much so that the attribution of different species to one or the other genus is the subject of discussion among scholars. The plant species commonly known as "senna" (about 270 different species identified), have a long tradition of use in the pharmaceutical field, for the treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal system. Senna is probably the most widely used laxative herb in herbal preparations.

In the cosmetic field it is used in formulations dedicated to skin care.
