Mint soap

Mint soap
DIFFICULTY
INGREDIENTS:

Ingredients for about 700 g soap:

- 375g Extra virgin olive oil

- 50g Coconut oil 50

- 25g Castor oil

- 45g Avocado oil

- 10g Mint essential oil

- 64g Caustic soda

- 125g Water

Here is the procedure for making your own homemade mint soap using the cold process. Always remember to work with gloves, goggles and an FFP3 filtering face mask. Enjoy the whole process!

Preparation

Make sure that everything that comes into contact with the soda and water solution does not contain aluminium and/or metals other than stainless steel.

Weigh water and caustic soda separetely. Pour the soda into the water and shake.

Make sure to avoid splashes during this operation. Caustic soda solution is extremely dangerous. Work with gloves, goggles and FFP3 filtering face mask.

The solution will heat up to about 80°, let it cool down to 30-40°.

Meanwhile, mix olive, coconut, and castor oil in a bowl. When the soda has come to temperature, combine soda and oils and start mixing with a mini-press.

Always be careful of splashing, as this solution is also particularly caustic.

While continuing to stir, prepare the avocado oil and mint in one bowl.

When the mixture starts to congeal, i.e. form a ribbon, add the avocado and mint solution, continuing to shake until everything is well blended and the mixture is well congealed.

Pour the mixture into the mould with the help of a silicone spatula. Cover the mould for the first 24 hours with a blanket in order to keep warm. Then uncover, remove from the mould, and cut. Leave it to rest in a non-humid place for 30 days.

Have fun during the whole process!

How to use

Once the 30-day curing period has passed, the soap can be cut and used to wash hands and body.

It is a natural soap, so always remember to keep it in a soap dish that drains water: in contact with water it will tend to melt!
